KPC Successfully Held Cleft Lip Surgery

PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) through the Smile and Hope Foundation successfully held cleft lip surgery, Thursday-Friday, April 25-26 2019. The activity which was centered in Kudungga Hospital managed to operate 20 patients from 32 people who registered.

“We managed to operate 20 patients. Initially there were 32 people registered, but only 20 people passed the screening and were eligible to conduct operation procedure. Now they have recovered. Hopefully they can live a better life, “said Yuliana Datu Bua, KPC Community Empowerment Manager.

The success of this year’s operation is inseparable from the role of the medical team that works very professionally. This time the surgery was carried out by a plastic surgeon and anesthetist from CLT Surabaya, who was a partner of the Smile Train Foundation. This foundation is the official one in collaboration with the Smile and Hope Foundation KPC.

East Kutai Regent Ismunandar appreciates cleft lip surgery, which is one of KPC’s CSR activities in the health sector. “Thank you, KPC continues to care for children who are born with cleft lip conditions. I hope, after the operation later, children have enthusiasm and can achieve goals like other children,” said Ismunandar at Pelangi Room, Hotel Victoria, Thursday (25/4).

Seeing the benefits of the social service activities, Ismu hopes, KPC continues to hold its activities so that children who have congenital clefts can be restored and stare at the future with smiles and joy. “Please continue this activity. The benefits are very good for our citizens,” said Imunandar.

Wawan Setiawan, GM External Affairs and Sustainable Development KPC said that this time, the event was purely supported by Indonesian doctors. “This happened because the Indonesian medical team now has good abilities in plastic surgery. There is already a transfer of knowledge from a previous operation program, “said Wawan Setiawan.

Previously, cleft lip and burn surgery activities in collaboration with a team of doctors from Interplast Australia and New Zealand. Every time this activity was carried out, always accompanied by a plastic surgeon and anesthetist from Indonesia. Activities with the Interplast team have been going on since 1993 for 19 times.
