This is KPC Innovation for Sustainable Environment

Indonesian companies, especially natural resource-based companies are challenged to make various innovations in the environmental field.  These innovations are seen and measured by environmental experts and practitioners and the government through the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

In the period 2018-2019, PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) has carried out various innovations in the environmental field.  Most notably there are 11 innovations, in the form of energy efficiency programs, GHG emission reductions and reduction of hazardous and non-hazardous waste deposits.  Other innovations are water efficiency and conservation program, flora and fauna conservation programs, and reduction of pollution load.

General Manager of Health, Safety, Environment and Security (HSES) Imanuel Manege said the savings achieved from these innovations reached more than Rp 6.1 trillion.  The value was obtained from efforts to reduce GHG emissions by 2,013 million tons with a saving value equivalent to Rp 1.8 trillion and energy efficiency of 2.3 million giga joules which equivalent to savings reached Rp 805.6 billion.

In addition, it was obtained from the reduction of hazardous and non-hazardous waste dumps by more than 20 thousand tons, with savings equivalent to Rp 286.1 billion.  Another efficiency value was obtained from water efficiency of 5.2 million m3, equivalent to savings of Rp 18 billion and Rp 169.1 billion obtained from the reduction in water pollution, TTS, BOD, and Ammonia loads.

For these innovations, KPC was awarded the Green category in the Company Performance Rating Assessment Program in Environmental Management (PROPER) for the period 2018-2019.  The award was given by the Minister of Environment and Forestry Dr.  Ir.  Siti Nurbaya, M.Sc, received by Rio Supin, General Manager of Business Development and Risk Management, at the Vice President’s Palace, Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta (8/1).
